Why do men have Adam's apples?
In asking this question, most people aren't interested in what the function of the Adam's apple is, just why men have them and women don't. Unfortunately, the answer to that isn't very interesting: women do have Adam's apples, they're just usually smaller than men's and tend to be hidden by fat in the neck. Now that we've established the Adam's apple as an equal opportunity body part, we can explore why it's there in the first place. Officially known as the "thyroid cartilage",
the plates of the Adam's apple make up the front and side walls of the larynx. The rigid structure of the Adam's apple helps to support and protect the delicate vocal
chords that lay inside the larynx. It's men's longer vocal chords that give them larger Adam's apples and deeper voices. (Main Source: THE BOOK OF TOTALLY USELESS INFORMATION By Don Vorhees)

Why does hair turn gray?
The color of hair is due to a pigment, melanin.  The "darkness" of hair is determined by the amount of melanin it contains.  As people get older, their bodies usually stop producing this pigment, which leaves their hair without color - leaving it either gray or white.

Tornadoes, violently rotating columns of air extending from a thunderstorm to the ground, are among nature's most virulent storms. In an average year, 800 tornadoes are reported across the United States, resulting in 80 deaths and more than 1,500 injuries. The worst tornadoes are capable of tremendous destruction with wind speeds of 250 miles per hour or more. Tornadoes can occur anywhere in the U.S. at any time of the year. In the southern states, the peak tornado season is March through May, while peak months in the northern states are during the summer.
Myth: Areas near rivers, lakes, and mountains are safe from tornadoes.

Fact: No place is safe. In the late 1980s, a tornado swept through Yellowstone National Park leav-ing a path of destruction up and down a 10,000-foot mountain.

Myth: The low pressure in a tornado causes buildings to "explode" as the tornado passes overhead.

Fact: Violent winds exceeding 200 miles per hour and debris slamming into buildings cause most structural damage.

Myth: Windows should be opened before a tornado approaches to equalize
pressure and minimize damage.

Fact: Opening windows allows damaging winds to enter the structure and wastes precious time. Leave the windows alone; instead, immediately go to a safe place.

Why are computer defects called "bugs"?
As the Y2K bug continues to make headlines, we should take a moment to consider a computer pioneer who had bugs of a different sort to deal with. In 1943, Navy officer Grace Hopper found a glitch in her computer. After investigating, she discovered the system had a bug--a real one. Turns out a moth made its way into Hopper's computer. Though the word "bug" has meant fault or defect since as
far back as the 1870's, Hopper's story is credited with making it the synonym of choice in the computer industry. Now if only the Y2K bug was as easy to eliminate as Hopper's bug.  (Main Source: Time Magazine, August 25, 1986)

How do radar's work?
Radars work by "shining" a beam of energy (usually microwaves) at an object and measuring how much power gets reflected back. The object might be an airplane, precipitation in a thunderstorm, bugs in the atmosphere, etc. If the object is moving when the energy hits it, then the microwaves will be Doppler shifted after they have been reflected back, and we can partly measure the object's velocity.

Former Texas Governor Ann Richards received a vote for "Best Rap Artist" in The Austin Chronicle's 1991 Austin Music Poll.

They have a petrified buffalo hairball at the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame in Waco.

In Texas, it is illegal to curse in front of or indecently expose a corpse.
